An onsite visit lets a technician confirm whether the drive is physically failing, check whether copies of your files already exist elsewhere (OneDrive or another backup), and get the machine working again on a new drive. Be aware of the limits. Physically failed drives, such as those that click, grind, are not detected or are water damaged, need specialist lab recovery, which we do not do. If that is what your drive needs, we will tell you early rather than keep billing you. We can't give a fixed timeframe because it depends on the size of the drive, its condition and what has gone wrong with it. Work is billed hourly with a one-hour minimum, and we'll tell you early if a drive looks unlikely to be recoverable so you aren't left waiting and paying.
Can data be recovered remotely?
Often, yes, for software-side problems such as deleted files, a formatted drive or a corrupted file system, provided the drive is still detected and working. A drive that is clicking, grinding or not detected is not a remote job and may need specialist lab recovery, which we don't do.
