Geeks Brisbane is a local IT support company based at Level 4, 260 Queen Street, Brisbane City. Our remote computer support service uses encrypted screen-sharing so a real Australian technician can take over your PC or Mac, diagnose the problem, and fix it on the spot — usually faster and cheaper than an onsite visit. Whether you're a homeowner in Bulimba whose Outlook stopped sending email, a retiree in Chermside trying to clean up a virus warning, or a small business owner in Milton who needs a new printer driver installed across five computers, remote support gets a qualified tech onto your screen in minutes.

This page covers exactly what we do remotely, what it costs, the tools we use, how the security works, and when remote support is the right choice versus an onsite visit. If you'd rather just talk to someone, call 1300 600 004 — we answer 7 days.

How Remote Support Works

Four simple steps. No software to install in advance, no technical knowledge required, and you stay in control of your screen the whole time.

1

Book & Pay Online

Pick a time slot above or call 1300 600 004. Pay securely up front — you'll get a confirmation email with the session details.

2

Download Our Tool

Click the link we email you to download a small, one-time connection tool (ConnectWise ScreenConnect or RustDesk). It takes 30 seconds and no install permission is needed.

3

We Connect Securely

You give us a one-time 6-digit code. Our Brisbane technician connects to your screen — you watch every click. Disconnect anytime with one button.

4

Problem Solved

We fix the issue, explain what we did in plain English, and disconnect. The connection tool removes itself automatically when the session ends.

Need Physical Repairs?

Remote support can't help with hardware faults — broken screens, dead batteries, liquid damage, or a computer that won't turn on. For those, book an onsite Brisbane visit or drop into our Queen Street workshop.

Recent Brisbane Remote Sessions

A snapshot of real remote IT support jobs Geeks Brisbane technicians completed for local Brisbane customers in the last 30 days. Names are first-name only for privacy.

Carindale · Mon morning

"Computer keeps showing a Microsoft warning to call this number"

Tech-support scam pop-up locked into Tom's browser. Cleared the malicious browser profile, removed the pinned site, ran a full Defender + Malwarebytes scan. 28 minutes, no data lost.

Chermside · Tue evening

"My BigPond email won't send from Outlook anymore"

Margaret had a stuck password after the Telstra mail migration. Re-added the account with the new IMAP server (mail.bigpond.com) and an app password. Sent + received working before we hung up.

Milton SMB · Wed lunchtime

"All five staff PCs printing super slowly"

Print spooler service was crashing on the shared Brother. Reinstalled the right 64-bit driver on the print server, cleared the spooler queue, set short-edge stapling default. Fixed across all five PCs in one 40-minute session.

Ipswich · Thu morning

"Laptop fans running flat-out, everything frozen"

Two browser extensions were mining cryptocurrency in the background. Removed them, reset the browsers, set up uBlock Origin, walked David through avoiding the same install path again.

Toowoomba · Fri morning

"Need MYOB AccountRight working on a new computer"

Installed MYOB AccountRight, migrated the company file from the old PC via OneDrive, re-linked bank feeds, set up a daily local backup. Sue was reconciling within the hour — no driving to Brisbane.

North Lakes · Sat afternoon

"Mum can't get into her iCloud photos"

Walked Beth's mum through an Apple ID password reset on screen-share, recovered the photo library, set up iCloud Photos backup properly, and added trusted phone numbers so it doesn't happen again.

Connection Tools & Security

We use the same enterprise-grade remote tools as banks and managed service providers. Everything is encrypted end-to-end, every session is logged, and the connection tool removes itself when the session ends.

ConnectWise ScreenConnectOne-time 6-digit code per session, AES-256 encryption, audit log of every action.
RustDesk (self-hosted)Open-source alternative for customers who prefer not to install commercial tools — runs from our own Australian server.
TeamViewer QuickSupportFamiliar option for customers who already have it installed — works fine, we'll guide you through generating an access ID.
Apple Screen SharingFor Mac-to-Mac sessions when you'd rather not install any extra software.

What we can — and can't — see

✔ We can see: your screen, exactly as you see it, while the session is running. We can move the mouse, type, install software, and open files only if you've granted permission.

✘ We cannot see: anything before the session started, anything after we disconnect, your webcam, your microphone, or files on devices that aren't on screen. We do not store passwords, and we never request banking logins.

You control: the session ends the instant you click "Disconnect" or close the connection tool. You can also lock the mouse so we can only watch, not type. We'll always pause and ask before doing anything that changes settings.

Remote vs Onsite IT Support — When to Choose Which

Not every Brisbane computer problem is suited to remote support. Here's how we decide, so you don't waste time or money.

SituationRemoteOnsite (Brisbane)Why
Virus / malware / scam pop-upYesOptionalRemote tools can scan and clean as effectively as on-site, faster.
Slow computer / clean-upYesOptionalAll software-side, remote is cheaper and just as thorough.
Email / Outlook / Office 365 issuesYesNo100% software-side. Remote is almost always faster.
New software install / migrationYesOptionalRemote works unless physical media or BIOS access is needed.
Wi-Fi / NBN dropoutsPartialYesWe can check settings remotely, but physical router/cabling needs hands.
Broken screen / liquid damage / dead PCNoYesHardware. Book a Brisbane onsite repair or workshop drop-off.
New PC / printer setupYesOptionalIf you can plug it in and connect to Wi-Fi, we can do the rest remotely.
Data recovery from a dead driveNoYesPhysical recovery. See our data recovery service.
One-on-one tech training (seniors)YesOptionalMany seniors prefer onsite, but remote works brilliantly with a phone call alongside.

Areas We Cover — Remote & Australia-Wide

Our remote IT support service works anywhere with an internet connection. We're Brisbane-based and most of our customers are in South-East Queensland, but we regularly help customers across Australia who want a local-feeling support team without the call-centre run-around.

Same-Day Remote IT Support

Most of our remote support sessions for Brisbane customers happen the same day they call. If you book a slot before 5pm AEST, there's an 85%+ chance a technician will be on your screen within the hour. After-hours support is available until 8pm seven days. Saturday and Sunday are surprisingly quiet for us, which means faster connect times if you can wait until the weekend for a non-urgent fix.

If you've got a true emergency — ransomware, locked-out scam pop-up, a small business that can't send invoices — call 1300 600 004 rather than going through the online booking form. The phone goes straight to a Brisbane technician (or, after-hours, a senior on-call tech) who can usually start a remote session within 5–10 minutes.

Remote Support FAQs

Is remote computer support actually secure?
Yes — when it's done right. Every session we run uses AES-256 encryption (the same level banks use for online banking), connects through a one-time six-digit code that only works for that session, and is fully audit-logged on our side. The connection tool removes itself when you close the session. We never store your passwords, never access your computer outside an active booked session, and never request banking credentials. The single biggest remote-support security risk is fake scammers pretending to be "Microsoft" or "Telstra" — Geeks Brisbane will never cold-call you about a virus, and we'll always confirm a booking by email first.
What do I need to use remote support?
A working internet connection and a computer (PC or Mac) that turns on and shows the desktop. That's it. We email you a link to download a small one-time connection tool — it takes about 30 seconds to download, no installation permission needed on most computers, and runs from your Downloads folder. If your computer won't even turn on or can't connect to the internet, remote support won't help and you'll want an onsite visit instead.
How quickly can a Brisbane technician connect to my computer?
During business hours (8am–6pm weekdays), most sessions start within 5–15 minutes of booking. After-hours (until 8pm) and weekends, expect 15–30 minutes. For genuine emergencies — ransomware, scam pop-ups that won't go away, a small business unable to operate — call 1300 600 004 and we'll try to connect immediately rather than slotting you into the next available time.
How much does a remote support session cost?
A 30-minute quick fix is $99 (inc GST). A standard up-to-one-hour session is $149. Extended sessions up to two hours are $249. Small business pay-as-you-go is $165/hr, and managed remote helpdesk plans start at $390/month. All prices include GST, all are no-fix-no-fee, and you'll get the exact quote before we connect — no surprise add-ons.
What happens if you can't fix the problem remotely?
You don't pay. That's our no-fix-no-fee guarantee on every remote session. If the issue turns out to need physical access (hardware fault, dead drive, broken screen) we'll let you know on the spot and, if you're in Brisbane metro, can arrange an onsite visit or workshop drop-off at our Queen Street office. We'll always tell you within the first 5–10 minutes whether the problem is realistically fixable remotely — we don't burn time trying.
Do you support both Windows and Mac?
Yes. Our Brisbane technicians are trained on Windows 10, Windows 11, and macOS (Big Sur, Monterey, Ventura, Sonoma and Sequoia). Linux is supported on a case-by-case basis. The remote connection works the same way on both — we'll send you the right tool for your operating system when you book.
Can you help my elderly parent over remote support?
Absolutely — this is one of the most common reasons people book remote support. We're patient, we don't talk down to anyone, and we're happy for you to stay on a phone call with your parent while we connect so you can help guide them through the link. Many of our regulars are seniors in Chermside, Carindale, and Indooroopilly who prefer remote support specifically because they don't need to let a stranger into the house. See our dedicated tech help for seniors page for more on how we work with older customers.
Will the connection tool stay on my computer afterwards?
No. The one-time tool we use (ConnectWise ScreenConnect or RustDesk) removes itself the moment you close the session window. There's no service left running, no background access, and no way for us to reconnect without you generating a brand-new code. The only exception is our managed business plans, where we install a maintained agent — and even that you can uninstall yourself at any time from Add/Remove Programs.
Can you help me with a one-off problem, or only with ongoing support?
Both. Most of our remote support customers are one-off — fix the issue, pay the bill, done. We don't lock anyone into contracts or membership plans. If you'd prefer ongoing managed remote helpdesk for a small business, that's available, but it's an option, not a requirement.
Can you fix a slow computer remotely?
Yes, in most cases. Slow computers are usually caused by too many startup programs, low free disk space, a fragmented or failing hard drive, malware, or browser extensions hogging memory — all fixable remotely. The exception is a genuinely failing hard drive or RAM fault, which we'd diagnose remotely and then refer to onsite or workshop repair. We'll always be honest within the first 10 minutes whether speeding up your specific computer is realistic remotely.
Do you provide remote IT support for small businesses?
Yes. We support a lot of Brisbane small businesses (typically 1–25 staff) on both pay-as-you-go remote support and managed remote helpdesk plans. Common work includes Microsoft 365 setup, shared drive / OneDrive configuration, printer fleet management, security baselines, email migration, and ad-hoc staff support. See our SMB remote support pricing & SLAs page for details.
Can you remove a virus or scam pop-up remotely?
Yes — remote virus removal is one of our most-requested services. Most modern malware (browser hijackers, tech-support scam pop-ups, adware, basic trojans, browser-injected miners) is fully removable in a remote session. The two exceptions are: (1) full-disk ransomware where files are already encrypted (we can stop the infection but can't always decrypt files), and (2) deeply-embedded rootkits that need an offline boot scan, which sometimes calls for a workshop drop-off. Full walkthrough on our remote virus removal Brisbane blog.
Do I need to be at the computer the whole time?
No, not for the whole session. You need to be there at the start (to enter the code and accept the connection), and again at the end (so we can show you what's been fixed). In the middle, while we're scanning, downloading updates or running a clean-up, you're welcome to make a cup of tea — we'll call your mobile when we need you.
Can I book a remote session for someone else (like a parent)?
Yes — this is very common. Book the session under your details, then on the day, three-way conference: you on the phone with us, your parent at the computer. We'll guide them through clicking the link, and you can step in if anything is confusing. Lots of our customers are adult kids in Sydney or Melbourne booking remote sessions for Mum and Dad in Brisbane.
