Before you read on — what we do, and what we don'tThis guide explains what these repairs cost in the local market so you can compare quotes fairly. We are an IT support business, not a repair workshop. We do not fit screens, keyboards, charging ports or hinges, and we do not carry out board-level repair — for those we diagnose the fault, tell you what a fair price looks like, and refer you to a trusted specialist. What we do handle on-site: setup, slow and crashing machines, Wi-Fi and NBN, email and Microsoft 365, virus removal, backups, battery and SSD/RAM upgrades, and data recovery from working drives. MacBook Screen Repair Brisbane:
2026 Costs & Options

Do we do this repair? No — and we'd rather say so upfront. Geeks Brisbane is a Mac support service (macOS, setup, migration, data transfer, virus removal and diagnosis), not a hardware repair workshop. We don't fit MacBook screens. This guide is here so you can walk into a repairer knowing what the job should cost and what to ask. If you want the fault confirmed first — plenty of "screen" faults are actually a cable, a graphics issue or a software glitch — we can diagnose that. See Mac support.

Cracked, flickering or dead display? Honest 2026 pricing by MacBook model — Air, Pro 13", 14" and 16" mini-LED. What the job should cost, and how to pick a repairer.

Most Brisbane MacBook screen jobs are done in 2–3 hours workshop time when parts are stocked. The big variables are model (Air, Pro 13", or 14"/16" mini-LED), parts source (genuine Apple vs quality aftermarket), and whether the lid frame, hinge or antennas were damaged in the same incident.

The 30-second answer

MacBook Air screens: $650–$1,050. MacBook Pro 13": $750–$1,200. 14"/16" mini-LED: $1,200–$2,200. Workshop time is 2–3 hours. Genuine Apple parts keep True Tone & colour accuracy; quality aftermarket can save 25–35% on older models. Get two or three quotes before you commit — the spread on the same panel is often $200 or more.

First — Confirm It's a Screen Issue (5 Quick Checks)

Before booking a screen repair, run these checks. About 1 in 8 "broken screens" we see are actually GPU, cable or software faults — saving the wrong part means saving real money.

  1. Plug into an external display
Use USB-C to HDMI or your monitor cable. If the external image is perfect but the built-in screen is faulty, it's a panel issue. If both displays fail, it's likely the GPU or logic board.
  2. Shine a torch at an angle on the dark screen
If you can see a faint image, the LCD works but the backlight is dead — usually a cheaper repair than a full panel.
  3. Reset NVRAM/SMC
On Apple silicon: shut down and power back on. On Intel: shut down, then boot while holding Option-Command-P-R for 20 seconds.
  4. Boot in Safe Mode
Apple silicon: hold Power until startup options appear, hold Shift, click "Continue in Safe Mode". Intel: hold Shift while booting. Flickers that disappear in Safe Mode = software issue.
  5. Check for liquid marks
Look around the hinge, camera and keyboard for any moisture, corrosion or salt crystals. Liquid changes the repair scope significantly.

Pro tip: Take 2–3 photos of the damage from different angles before booking — close-up of the crack/lines, full screen showing extent, and one of the closed lid. Any repairer worth using will quote from clear photos, so you can compare prices without paying a callout fee.

2026 MacBook Screen Repair Pricing by Model

Brisbane-specific 2026 ranges, collected from local repairers. The quote you are given depends on the exact model year, panel availability, and whether the lid frame, antennas or camera are damaged.

MacBook Model Years Repairer Range
MacBook Air 13" (Retina, M1, M2, M3) 2018–2024 $650 – $950
MacBook Air 15" (M2, M3) 2023–2024 $850 – $1,050
MacBook Pro 13" (Touch Bar) 2016–2020 $750 – $1,000
MacBook Pro 13" (M1, M2) 2020–2022 $850 – $1,200
MacBook Pro 14" (M1/M2/M3 Pro/Max) 2021–2024 $1,200 – $1,800
MacBook Pro 16" (M1/M2/M3 Pro/Max) 2021–2024 $1,400 – $2,200
Older MacBook Pro Retina (15", 17") 2012–2015 $600 – $1,100
Liquid damage assessment add-on Any model +$150 – $350
Hinge / lid frame straightening Any model +$80 – $280

What a quote should include: parts, labour, calibration (True Tone, ambient light sensor), function tests (camera, mic, Wi-Fi, antennas), and a written parts & labour warranty — six months is the Brisbane norm. Usually excluded: any logic board work needed for liquid-damaged Macs, which is quoted separately.

Genuine Apple vs Aftermarket Panels

This is the question we're asked most. The honest answer: it depends on what you do with your Mac and how long you plan to keep it.

Quality Aftermarket Panel

$200–$400 cheaper
  • Significant savings, especially on older Macs
  • Often same supplier as Apple's OEM
  • Usually in stock — faster turnaround
  • Fine for everyday browsing, email, study
  • May lose True Tone on some models
  • Slight colour variance (5–10% off)
  • Apple may decline future repairs on this part

Our recommendation:

  • Designers, photographers, video editors, colourists: Genuine Apple. The colour accuracy difference matters.
  • Students, general office use, web browsing: Aftermarket is excellent value, especially on older Pro 13" or pre-2020 Air models.
  • Reselling within 6 months: Genuine — buyers will check, and aftermarket reduces resale value.
  • Mac you'll keep 3+ more years: Genuine. Long-term reliability and brightness retention is worth the premium.

Not Sure It's the Panel? Find Out First

About one in eight "broken screens" turns out to be a cable, a graphics fault or software. We can confirm which before you pay a repairer for a panel you never needed.

How Long Does the Repair Take?

Workshop time for a clean swap is consistent — about 2–3 hours regardless of model. The variable is parts availability:

  • Same-day (most common): MacBook Air 13", Pro 13" — these panels are widely stocked in Brisbane, so a morning drop-off is often ready after lunch.
  • 1–3 business days: Pro 14" and 16" mini-LED panels — usually ordered in from Australian suppliers.
  • 3–7 business days: Less common configurations or storm-season backlog (December–February).
  • 5–10+ business days: Special-order panels (older Retina, recent M3 Pro/Max), or any liquid damage that needs full inspection.

The Repair Process — What's Involved

Transparency matters. Here's exactly what a MacBook screen job involves, so you can tell a thorough repairer from a rushed one. We diagnose and refer; the panel itself is fitted by a specialist:

  1. Photo triage & quote
You send photos, the repairer identifies the model and damage extent, then quotes both genuine and aftermarket options before any booking.
  2. Parts confirmation
Exact panel availability is checked with suppliers before a same-day or scheduled slot is locked in.
  3. Booking & logistics
Most Brisbane repairers offer workshop drop-off; some will collect. Turnaround depends on panel stock.
  4. Backup recommendation
We recommend a Time Machine or external SSD backup before the repair — the panel swap doesn't touch storage, but it's a sensible precaution after any drop.
  5. Lid assembly swap
The battery is disconnected, the lid clutch screws come out, and the full lid assembly is swapped — antennas, camera cable and the eDP video connector all re-seated.
  6. Calibration
Run True Tone calibration, ambient light sensor test, colour accuracy verification, and brightness scaling check across all 16 levels.
  7. Full QA pass
Test keyboard, trackpad, Wi-Fi, mic, camera, speakers, hinge tension, lid magnets and SSD health. Anything off-spec gets flagged.
  8. Return & warranty
Ask for a written parts & labour warranty running from the day you collect — six months is the Brisbane norm. Get it in writing before you pay.

Damage Type Guide

Different damage scenarios change repair scope and pricing. Here's what we typically see in Brisbane:

Cracked Glass

Drop or pressure crack with visible spider lines or shattered glass. Most common. Standard panel swap, no extras.

Base price

Vertical Lines

Coloured lines, blocks or noise patterns. Usually internal panel damage from impact. Standard panel swap.

Base price

Liquid Damage

Coffee, water, beer or rain. Adds full corrosion inspection and possible logic board cleaning. May affect price/timeline significantly.

+$150 – $350

Hinge / Bent Lid

Lid won't close flush, hinge stiff, frame bent. Needs straightening before new panel goes in. Adds 1–2 hours.

+$80 – $280

Camera/Wi-Fi Issues

If camera or antennas are damaged with the panel, replacement assembly already includes them. No extra cost on lid swap.

Included

Backlight Only

Image visible faintly with torch but no backlight. Sometimes cheaper if it's a cable rather than full panel.

$280 – $550

AppleCare+ & Insurance — What's Covered in Australia

Before paying full price, check these three options:

AppleCare+

Covers accidental screen or enclosure damage for a per-incident excess (typically $149 AUD per incident) while the plan is active. You can use it twice per 12-month period. Standard 1-year Apple warranty does NOT cover accidents.

Check eligibility: Apple menu > About This Mac > Service. Or sign in to your Apple ID coverage page.

Home & contents insurance

Many Australian home and contents policies cover laptop drops as "accidental damage to portable items" — usually with an excess of $200–$500. Worth checking before paying out of pocket. We can write you a damage report for the claim; the itemised invoice comes from whoever does the repair.

Australian Consumer Law

If your MacBook is under 2 years old and the screen failed without obvious damage (e.g. dead pixels, vertical lines without a drop), you may have a major-failure claim under ACCC consumer guarantees, regardless of Apple's warranty position. We can document the fault for you.

Brisbane-Specific Issues — Heat, Storms, Suburb Patterns

After 100+ Brisbane MacBook screen enquiries, we see clear patterns:

Commute drops

Backpack drops on bus, train and ferry commutes from Indooroopilly, Coorparoo and Carindale to the CBD account for ~30% of cracked screens we see. Padded laptop sleeves are essential — soft pouches don't cut it.

Storm season power dips

December–February brownouts during summer storms cause sudden black screens. The display itself is usually fine — the issue is logic board protection circuits tripping. A surge protector or small UPS prevents this. Older Queenslanders in Red Hill, New Farm and Highgate Hill are especially vulnerable.

Heat & humidity

Bayside humidity (Wynnum, Manly, Cleveland) accelerates backlight bleed and panel fogging. Avoid leaving MacBooks in hot cars during summer shopping runs. Don't use on a soft surface — blocked vents cook the panel-driver IC.

Uni rush periods

Same-day repair demand spikes around UQ St Lucia, QUT Kelvin Grove and Griffith South Bank during exam weeks (May, October). Book early or expect 1–3 day waits.

Designer hubs

Newstead, Teneriffe and Fortitude Valley designers consistently choose genuine Apple parts — colour accuracy matters for client work. Expect a longer wait if a repairer has to order the panel in.

Red Flags — When to Stop Using Your Mac

Power down and call us immediately if you see any of these:

Stop-use signals: Sharp glass shedding fragments, smoke or burnt smell from the lid, liquid visible inside the panel, swollen battery (case bowing or trackpad lifting), redness/heat near the battery after a drop. Don't charge. Don't try to close a stuck lid — bent frames can crack a new screen on install.

For non-urgent damage (cracks without smoke, lines, dead pixels), it's safe to keep using the Mac short-term — but back up your data first in case the damage progresses.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about MacBook screen repair in Brisbane

Expect about $750–$1,200 for 13-inch models depending on year and parts choice. The 14-inch mini-LED often sits around $1,200–$1,800, while the 16-inch can reach $1,400–$2,200. Bent lids, liquid damage, or antenna/camera faults add time and cost. Not sure it's the screen? Book a diagnostic.
Brisbane repairers quote most MacBook Air Retina/M1/M2/M3 13-inch screen replacements between $650 and $950. The newer 15-inch Air sits in the $850–$1,050 range. Aftermarket options can reduce price by ~25%, but you may lose True Tone or see minor colour differences. Ask any repairer to quote both options before you commit.
Often yes — for MacBook Air 13" and Pro 13" panels are widely stocked in Brisbane and most repairers turn the job around in 2–3 hours. Pro 14" and 16" mini-LED panels usually take 1–3 business days. Liquid damage, bent hinges or special-order panels can push to 5–10 days. Book early in the day for best chance of same-day completion.
A screen replacement doesn't touch your storage — your files, apps and settings stay exactly as they are. We still recommend a Time Machine or external SSD backup before any repair, especially if the Mac took a hard drop or has any liquid involvement. A repairer's warranty covers workmanship, not your files — the backup is your safety net.
For colour-critical work (design, photo, video editing), keeping True Tone, and any Mac you'll own 3+ more years — yes, genuine is the right choice. For older Macs, students, general office use and budget repairs, quality aftermarket panels are a smart trade-off, often saving $200–$400 with minor colour variance you'd never notice in everyday use. Ask for both quotes so the choice is yours.
Yes — AppleCare+ covers accidental screen or enclosure damage for a per-incident excess (typically $149 AUD) while the plan is active, twice per 12-month period. Standard 1-year Apple warranty doesn't cover accidents. Home and contents insurance may cover drops too — check your policy excess. We can write you a damage report for an insurance claim.
