Geeks Brisbane provides onsite and remote IT support for dental practices across Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan, Moreton Bay (as far north as Caboolture) and Redlands. Onsite support is $205/hour and remote support is $125/hour, with a one-hour minimum and no call-out fee. To book support for your practice, call 1300 600 004.
When the reception computer stalls during patient check-in or a surgery printer drops off the network, the whole practice waits. We help practice managers and owners who want a local team to keep everyday IT working around the clinical day, from PCs and printers to email and backups.
What IT support does a dental practice need?
A dental practice runs on a handful of connected machines that all have to work together: the reception PCs, the surgery PCs, the imaging workstations, the practice server, the printers, the network and the backups behind them. We support the hardware, network and data protection that your practice software runs on, whether you run Windows or Mac. The table below shows what that looks like in practice.
| Support item | Onsite / remote | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| Reception check-in computers | Remote or onsite | Fix slow or freezing PCs, sort out logins and updates, and replace or reconfigure machines at the front desk. |
| Chairside and surgery PCs | Mostly onsite | Troubleshoot the Windows and Mac computers in each surgery, tidy cabling and keep the machines consistent from room to room. |
| Imaging workstations | Remote or onsite | Look after the Windows PC itself: updates, logins, storage space, network connection and setting up a replacement machine. |
| Practice server | Remote or onsite | Maintain the server hardware and operating system, check disk space and updates, and keep the server reachable on the network for the practice software that runs on it. |
| HICAPS / EFTPOS network connectivity | Mostly onsite | Make sure the reception network, cabling and router give your payment terminals a stable connection. |
| Shared and network printers | Remote or onsite | Set up and fix printers at the front desk and in the surgeries, on fixed network addresses so they stay reachable and are mapped to the right computers in each room. See printer setup. |
| Office network and WiFi | Mostly onsite | Set up and fix the router, switches and WiFi, including separate staff and guest access. See network and WiFi optimisation. |
| Backups | Remote or onsite | Set up backups of patient and business files, and check that files can be restored. See data backup and transfer. |
| Email (Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace) | Mostly remote | Set up mailboxes, add or remove staff accounts and fix sync problems. See Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace and email setup and troubleshooting. |
| Secure remote access | Remote | Set up safe access to practice files and email for the owner or practice manager away from the clinic. |
| Security hardening | Remote or onsite | Tighten passwords, multi-factor sign-in, updates and device settings. See cyber security services. |
For Mac-based surgeries and front desks, our Apple Mac support covers the same ground.
Do you support Dental4Windows, Praktika and imaging software?
We support the PCs, server, network and backups that practice and imaging software run on, not the software or imaging hardware itself. Practice management software such as Dental4Windows or Praktika, and imaging software, depends on ordinary IT underneath it: a healthy PC, a server that stays up, a stable network and backups that work. That underlying layer is what we support.
When your software vendor is doing an update or a migration, we can work with them on the IT side if you ask us to, for example by preparing the PCs or server, checking the network and confirming a backup exists before the change.
What we do not do:
- We do not support, configure or troubleshoot the practice management application itself.
- We do not calibrate imaging sensors or repair imaging hardware such as intraoral cameras, sensors, OPG or CBCT units.
- We do not service EFTPOS or HICAPS terminals; we only look after the network they connect through.
If a problem turns out to be inside the software or the imaging device, we will tell you so you can take it straight to the right vendor instead of paying for the wrong fix.
Storage and network capacity for imaging files
OPG and CBCT scans produce large files, and they add up quickly on an imaging workstation and on the server that holds them. We check free disk space on both, make sure the network between the surgeries and the server can move big files without slowing everyone else down, and size backup storage so images are included.
Example: the imaging server runs out of disk space mid-morning
Say the server that holds your imaging files runs low on disk space while patients are booked. We start remotely: we check how much space is left and what is using it, whether updates or backups are behaving, and whether the network connection to the surgeries is healthy. Many storage and update problems can be sorted from our end.
If the cause is in the building, such as a failing drive, a loose cable or a switch that needs replacing, or the server needs more storage fitted, we come onsite. Because backup storage is sized to include images, there are copies of the files held away from that server, and we test a restore rather than assuming it works. That is the difference between a stressful morning and lost images.
Keeping the practice running day to day
Most IT trouble in a practice is small and repetitive: a slow PC, a missing printer, a login that fails. These are the things we set up so the clinical day is not interrupted.
Reception and surgery computers
The front desk is usually the busiest machine in the building. Slow start-ups, profile problems and failed updates show up there first. Surgery PCs have a different problem: they sit in rooms that are cleaned and sterilised often, and they are shared between staff. We keep them set up the same way so a clinician moving between rooms does not hit a different login or a missing printer.
Clinical PCs on a separate network
Clinical and reception PCs should not share a network with patient guest WiFi or with payment terminals. We can set up separate networks so guests and terminals have their own connection, while the practice PCs, server and printers sit on a staff-only network.
A simple "front desk down" fallback
If the main reception PC fails, check-in should not stop. We can set up a spare PC, or a second login station, with the logins, printer mapping and shared-file access already in place, so staff can switch over while the main machine is fixed or replaced.
Planning work around your clinic hours
Chairs are booked through the day, so we plan onsite work around your clinic hours wherever the job allows. Tell us your trading hours and which rooms are in use, and we will schedule the work to suit.
What our business IT support customers say
These are reviews from our business IT support customers, quoted as written. They are not from dental clients.
- "Harry was incredible. He worked tirelessly to help me set up the basic business access for my start up business. I would highly recommend Geeks - with no hesitation!" - Sancha
- "Thank you again. Vinnie was a great help and will be calling on IT support again in future. So convenient when they can come onsite also."
- "Harry arrived on time and completed the tasks efficiently. I would highly recommend him to future clients."
- "Above and beyond customer service....I needed help that day and they made it happen! Very kind. Very professional. Exceptional service."
Can you support our practice remotely?
Yes. Many problems, such as a failed update, an email sync fault, a printer queue or a login issue, can be fixed from our end without anyone travelling to your practice. For hardware, cabling and network work in the building, we come onsite. Our remote support page explains how a session works.
Remote access also matters for the owner or practice manager. If you need to reach practice files or email from home, we can set up secure access with multi-factor sign-in, so you are not relying on a shared password or a consumer file-sharing link.
Rather Have a Tech Sort It?
Our Brisbane team can help remotely or at your place, and you will know the cost before we start.

How should a dental practice back up patient data?
Patient records are the one thing a practice cannot afford to lose, and the Australian Privacy Act applies to health service providers, including small practices, so how you store and protect that data matters. Under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme, a health service provider must notify the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner and the affected individuals when a data breach is likely to result in serious harm. Having tested backups, protected copies and tight access controls makes it easier to understand what was affected and to recover. A sound backup setup has a few parts, and we can build each of them:
- More than one copy. Keep a copy on a separate device or location from the computer that holds the live files, and one offsite copy so a theft, fire or flood at the practice does not take both.
- Automatic schedules. Backups should run without anyone remembering to start them.
- Restore checks. A backup is only useful if files can be restored from it, so we test a restore rather than just trusting a green tick.
- Protected copies. Backup locations should need their own sign-in so ransomware on one PC cannot easily reach them.
We set up and check backups for the files and data on your practice computers and servers. Our data backup and transfer page has more detail. We do not make a practice compliant with any privacy requirement; we help you put sensible technical protections in place.
What areas do you cover?
We provide onsite support across Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan, Moreton Bay (as far north as Caboolture) and Redlands, and remote support for practices in those areas when a site visit is not needed. Our about page has more on who we are.
Frequently asked questions
Do you work with our practice software vendor?
We support the hardware and network that your practice software runs on, and we can coordinate with your vendor on updates or migrations when you ask us to. We have no vendor partnerships, and the software itself is outside what we support.
Can you set up a new surgery room?
We can set up the IT side: the PC, network points or WiFi, printer mapping, logins and backup coverage.
What happens if the front desk PC dies on a clinic day?
Call us on 1300 600 004 and we will work out whether it can be fixed remotely or needs someone onsite. If the machine has to be replaced, we can set up a replacement and reconnect it to your printers, email and shared files. We do not promise a specific timeframe.
Do you support practices with an onsite server?
Yes. We look after the server hardware, operating system, updates, storage and backups, and keep it reachable on the network.
How is dental IT support charged?
Dental IT support is charged by the hour. Onsite support is $205/hour and remote support is $125/hour, with a one-hour minimum and no call-out fee. Managed plans for ongoing cover are on our business IT support page.
